Supporters of Kirkcaldy Foodbank may be interested in the Scotland Demands Better march and rally to be held in Edinburgh on Saturday, October 25.
Intended to be a vibrant, family friendly day, the event will bring together individuals and communities from across Scotland to demand better from our political leaders.
Organisers are expecting about 5000 people to join the march. Participants will assemble outside the Scottish Parliament between 10-11am before marching through the centre of Edinburgh, finishing up at the Meadows where the rally will take place with music, speeches, food vendors and free activities for children.
The march is intended to demonstrate the range and diversity of support the campaign has, so people are encouraged to bring along their own placards, signs and banners.
A spokesman for Scotland Demands Better said: "Too many of us are being cut off from life's essentials. Too many are frightened of what the future will bring. Too many of us are feeling tired, angry, isolated, and disillusioned. Too many are going hungry, or are without a home, or sacrificing meals for families, dreading winter due to heating costs, or struggling to get by on wages that don’t cover their household costs."
Kirkcaldy Foodbank chair Angela Campbell said: "The demands of the march are about addressing many of the reasons why people have to use a foodbank, which is why we would encourage our volunteers to support it if they can."
Scotland Demands Better is co-ordinated by The Poverty Alliance – Scotland’s national network of organisations who want a future beyond the injustice of poverty.
