Kirkcaldy Foodbank acting chair Angela Campbell, along with her husband, fellow foodbank trustee, Ian, were delighted to be invited to visit the House of Commons and contribute to the work of the Child Poverty Taskforce.
They were able to present the lived reality of the impact of child poverty and the limitations this imposes on children and their families using the experience and knowledge gathered over the 11 years of the foodbank’s existence as a community charity.
They were also able to describe the impact of the joint work the foodbank has been undertaking with partners in the Kirkcaldy area.
The Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, Liz Kendall, and Alex Fitzpatrick, the senior civil servant overseeing the Child Poverty Taskforce, were particularly interested in the positive impact of having partners working alongside the foodbank and the support of Fife Council in helping to alleviate poverty in the Kirkcaldy area.
Angela and Ian were delighted with the work being undertaken by the Child Poverty Taskforce and are particularly grateful for the invitation and the support shown by the MP for Cowdenbeath and Kirkcaldy, Melanie Ward.
During their visit, they were given a tour of the House of Commons and were invited to sit in on Scottish Questions led by the Secretary of State for Scotland, Ian Murray, and the Under-Secretary of State, Kirsty McNeill, and then Prime Minister’s Questions with Sir Keir Starmer.
